What does a large-home rebuild need on site?
A big rebuild runs for many months and brings in a long list of trades. Each trade adds people to the site, and each person needs a toilet within reach. A single portable unit may be enough for a small crew, and a bigger project may need several, with a handwash station beside them.
OSHA 1926.51 is summarized by secondary guides as 1 toilet per 20 workers up to 200 workers and 1 per 40 after 200, with handwashing near the toilets. Those are indicative figures, so confirm them with your contractor. The construction site toilet page explains the rest of what changes a quote.
On a long job, servicing matters as much as the count. The provider handles it, and a published guide says that a unit left unserviced for three weeks can be a citable violation.
When does a trailer beat a portable unit at a garden party?
A wedding or garden party on a big River Oaks lot is a different brief from a job site. Guests dressed for the occasion will expect a finished restroom, which is where a flushable trailer comes in. The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo moved to climate-controlled trailers with sinks with running water in its busiest areas, a sign of what many guests expect now.
Trailers need room, a firm surface and a path from the street. Wide lots, long drives and large side lawns suit them better than a small yard. Our page on restroom trailers for weddings and parties covers what to check.
How do heat and storms affect a lawn event here?
Houston has issued repeated heat advisories with temperatures at or above 105 F and heat index near 112. A tent on a lawn in June is hot, and guests drift toward air-conditioned trailers. Beryl in July 2024 brought gusts of 70 to 80 mph and more than 10 inches of rain, so a wedding in hurricane season needs a backup plan.
Ask the provider what happens if a storm warning is issued: whether delivery moves, who decides, and what happens to units already in place. The hurricane planning guide lists what to settle.
Where do the planned streets and the bayou come in?
The 1923 plan gave River Oaks wide curving roads, which generally helps a delivery truck. Buffalo Bayou on the north edge is a reminder that Houston floods, and the provider will want to know where water has collected on your lot after rain.
Do not guess where a unit can sit near a bayou bank. Tell the provider the lot's low spots, and let it pick the position.
